15 Movies You Should Care About in 2017

New year, new movies! And a bunch of exciting ones are planned! Here’s my list to help you get excited for what’s coming.

1.Hidden Figures (Jan 6th)

This true story is about the awesome African-American women who did the math to get NASA caught up in the Space Race and sent John Glenn to be the first American to ever do a complete orbit of the earth. Staring Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson a mathematics genius and Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan, and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson. Even if math and history doesn’t sound compelling right away, it looks to be an uplifting tale and I want to see it.

2.The Space Between Us (February 3rd)

This story is about a Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield) who’s the first Human to be born on Mars, abet unexpectedly. His mother dies in childbirth and he is raised on Mars by the other scientists sent on the mission. Now 16, he begins video chatting a girl named Tulsa (Britt Robertson) on Earth in the hopes of discovering his father and learning about Earth. When he gets his chance to visit Earth, it becomes a race to discover his origins and be with Tulsa, before his body gives out under the earth’s atmosphere. It is a love story, but the premise sounds intriguing.

3.The LEGO Batman Movie (February 10th)

A bit of a parody of the Batman character, this Lego film pokes fun at Batman/Bruce Wayne (Will Arnet) as he struggles to raise Robin/Dick Grayson (Michael Cera) and defend Gotham City from the Joker (Zach Galifianakis) and other classic villains.

4.Logan (March 3rd)

In the near future, Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) must protect Laura (Dafne Keen), young girl who’s very much like Wolverine. Athough Logan’s healing abilities aren’t what they used to be and Xavier’s memories are faulty, will they be able to stand up to whatever is after Laura?

5.Beauty and the Beast (March 17th)

This is the live action retelling of the animated Disney classic. If you don’t know the plot somehow, it’s pretty simple. Belle (Emma Watson) becomes the beast’s (Dan Stevens) prisoner in exchange for her father’s freedom. while being held captive she begins to befriend the castle’s enchanted staff and see past the beast’s cursed form into his true heart. Meanwhile Belle’s father has gotten the attention of Gaston (Luke Evans), the local big shot hunter who wants to kill the beast and free Belle. I’m really curious how close they’ll stick to the original.

6.Power Rangers (March 23rd)

A group of 5 high school outcasts accidently stubble on the original Power Rangers’ Power coins accidently summing back Rita, an intergalactic being who wants to possess the Zeo Crystal. Now the new Power Rangers must train fast and learn to work together under ex-Red Ranger, Zordon (Bryan Cranston) to prepare for Rita. If that all went over your head, don’t worry. It’s a reboot, so you don’t have to know anything going into the movie. Featuring: Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimerly Hart/Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger, Becky G as Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger and Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor /Black Ranger.

7.Ghost in the Shell (March 31st)

This cyber punk movie is an adaption of the Japanese manga of the same name. It follows cyborg The Major (Scarlet Johansson), an counter-cyberterrorist field commander  in section 9 aimed at stopping hacking and tech based crimes. But there’s a new hacker who will stop at nothing to destroy Hanka Robotics’ tech.

Set two months after the first movie, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) now finds himself the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but still has questions about his father. Join the team as they continue their adventures and discover who his true parentage.

9.Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tells No Tales (May 26th)

Join Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) on another crazy adventure, this time he’s seeking the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that is said to give it’s user the ability to control the oceans. Why? Well, there’s his old blood thirsty rival chasing after him, Capitan Salazar (Javier Bardem) who’s just escaped from the Devil’s Triangle with his ghost crew and is determined to kill every pirate.

10.Wonder Women (June 2nd)

Living on the island Themyscrira, in the 20th century the Amazon Princess Diana (Gal Godot) meets Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), a American military pilot who’s just washed up on the shores. After learning of what’s going on in World War I, she becomes determined to leave and stop it.. and in the process becomes one of the most powerful heroes.

11.Cars 3 (June 16th)

With a new faster generation of cars on the tracks, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) suddenly finds himself out of racing. Determined to not give up and inspired by the late Doc Hudson, Lightning teams up with Cruz Ramirez, a young eager race technician with her own plans to win.

12.Spiderman: Homecoming (July 7th)

Taking place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker/Spiderman (Tom Holland) does his best to balance crime fighting with school, when a new villain, the Vulture (Michael Keaton) shows up. Luckily he has Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as his mentor to help him figure it all out. (or not)

13.Thor: Ragnarok (July 28th)

To be the 3rd Thor movie, it’s plot isn’t released at this time. However there’s plenty of speculation about what it’s about. There are whispers of cosmic gladiator fighting, the Hulk being included, Doctor Strange and not a lot of earth. Sounds intriguing. Featuring: Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Marc Ruffalo as Hulk, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and more.

14.Justice League (November 17th)

Months after the events in Batman v. Superman, Batman/Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince/Wonder Women (Gal Godot) gather up a team of metahumans to help defend earth against a new threat. Featuring also: Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Ray Fisher as Cyborg/Victor Stone, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/Flash, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman and more!

15. Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15th)

And the movie I’m most excited for…. Episode 8!!!! Taking place after the Force Awakens, Rey continues her epic journey with Poe and Finn, but now with Luke Skywalker! What will happen next??!!! I heard it will pick up directly after the scene where Rey’s holding out the light saber. So we’ll have to wait and see.

So what movies are you excited for? Any I didn’t include? Am I the only one surprised that we have trailers for movies almost a year away?
